The Damon system was invented by American orthodontist Dr. Dwight Damon and is now used worldwide.

Damon braces are self-ligating braces with an innovative closing system that ensures optimal force transmission.

Damon braces are placed on the teeth in the same way as traditional metal braces. Traditional braces, which use elastic bands to attach the braces to the orthodontic wire, require the use of stronger forces to straighten the teeth. In contrast, Damon braces have a built-in closing system and sliding mechanism that attaches the wire to the braces. Damon braces use a different method for moving teeth into the correct positions. The braces are attached to a memory wire that connects the sliding brackets without pressure, which otherwise is provided by elastic bands on traditional braces. The entire process is carried out using gentler forces than those used in appliances with traditional braces.
